A hub of creativity, expertise, and easy everyday living, Kajaani offers comprehensive and high-quality public and private services. Home to approximately 38,000 people, the city is the capital of the Kainuu region.
Kajaani is a city of lively cultural and sporting activities, and diverse educational opportunities, as well as being a busy conference centre. Those in search of cultural experiences can explore the tantalising world of theatre and film, or enjoy a concert at the Kaukametsä concert hall, while a visit to the city’s library and museums should not be overlooked.
Kajaani also boasts excellent opportunities for competitive sport and recreational exercise all year round. The numerous outdoor routes and paths are kept in good condition throughout the year, while a range of sports and exercise halls mean indoors sports enthusiasts have plenty to choose from. Lake Oulujärvi, several smaller lakes and ponds, and the Kajaaninjoki River that flows through the centre of the city, all offer first-class opportunities for fishing. A nine-hole golf course is located only a few miles from the city centre.
